Public notice on Access & Benefit Sharing on 5 Plant Species now open

The Access to Genetic Resources and Community Knowledge and Community Rights Regulation 169/2001 states that public notice of the access application on genetic resources shall be given in a national newspaper having wider distribution and, as appropriate, in the local news paper of the locality where the access is intended to take place. Accordingly, an access application from a private company on 5 plant species (Acokanthera shimperi, Osyris sp., Withania somnifera, Dichrostachys cinerea, and Warburgia ugandensis), which was submitted to the Institute of Biodiversity Conservation, has been published on Addis Zemen (Amharic version) on 30 Hidar 2004 (EC).

FAO Raises Alarms on Consequences of Mountain Forests Loss

9 December 2011: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, has published a report titled “Mountain Forests in a Changing World” that brings attention to the threats to mountain forests including increasing temperatures and wildfires, population growth and food and fuel insecurity.
