23 December 2011: Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life forms within a given ecosystem, or an entire planet. Some descried biodiversity as everything that is necessary to survive on this planet and a measure of the health of ecosystems. Biodiversity is in part a function of climate in terrestrial habitats. Tropical regions are typically rich whereas Polar Regions support fewer species. Everybody agree that biological resources are fundamental to human well being in agriculture, livestock, logging, export earning, economic output and for their ecological services and function.

Implementation of Tef Agreement & Benefits of Ratifying the Nagoya Protocol

[ March 16, 2012 to March 17, 2012. ] A two days workshop on the Implementation of Tef Agreement entered between Ethiopia and a Dutch Company will be convened in Adama/Nazreth. Moreover, Benefits of Signing and Ratifying the Nagoya Protocol will be discussed by high level officials.

UN Launches Biodiversity Decade

19 December 2011: The UN Decade on Biodiversity was launched on 17 December 2011, in Kanazawa, Japan, in a ceremony organized by the UN University (UNU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment of Japan, Ishikawa Prefecture and Kanazawa City, and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The international launch of the Decade was preceded by regional launches in Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia, India, the Philippines, and the Republic of Korea.
