Ethiopian Farmers share experiences on Enset farming & utilization

A group of farmers (11 Women an 29 Men) from Gimbichu Wereda, East Shewa of Oromia Regional State visited two model farmers’ farm, where they have been introduced with huge Enset diversity (more then 25 Enset types). The main aim of the tour was to share experience between the farming communities of the two regional states.

Stakeholders Workshop on Developing National Plan of Action — Tentative

[ January 18, 2012 to January 20, 2012. ] After a decade of deliberation and preparations in consultation with member countries, the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (FAO) has come up with a Global Plan of Action (GPA) for Animal Genetic Resource for Food and Agriculture (AnGRFA) and the Interlaken Declaration. The GPA for AnGRFA is comprised of four Strategic Priority Areas (SPAs), namely: Characterization, Inventory and Monitoring of Trends and Associated Risks, Sustainable Use and Development, Conservation, and Policies, Institutions and Capacity-building.

Lowland Bamboo & Agro-Biodiversity Policy Dialogue

[ November 23, 2011; ] EIAR via forestry directorate and the regional agricultural bureau has prepared a draft strategic document for conservation and development of the regional bamboo resources. A dialogue on the Status, Challenges and Threats of Agro-biodiversity of Ethiopia will also be presented by the Institute of Biodiversity Conservation (IBC). Therefore, EIAR, the regional agricultural bureau and IBC have organized a workshop to be held in regional capital, Assosa for discussion on the strategic document and Agro-biodiversity of Ethiopia and find urgently needed solutions for the prevailing threats.
